MURDER IS BACK IN FASHION … A fashion shoot on the powdery beaches of Southwest Florida goes awry when a supermodel is found dead in her penthouse suite at the Ritz-Carlton. Chief suspect – ex-boyfriend and renowned designer, Dodge Maddison. But there are others: a new lover; a devious business partner; a bloodthirsty model; an ambitious photographer; and a mysterious designer – all with one thing in common – an uncontrollable lust for fame and fortune. Call to the rescue is best friend Ben Benson, chief of police of Dodge’s small hometown outside Boston. Big Ben’s no nonsense, bull-in-the-china-shop method of investigation promises to flush out the real killer and bring a quick resolve. Instead, he finds some treacherous goings-on in the fashion world; simmering rivalries, deadly jealousies and ruthless power plays for control of a multi-million dollar enterprise. And with more murder on the horizon, Big Ben cannot help but wonder if his best friend isn’t designing it all.
There’s something happening here, what it is ain’t exactly clear… What started out to be a fun Florida vacation for Chief of Police Big Ben Benson and his wife Carlene, gets blown away before they’re even off the plane from Boston. A woman is murdered at The Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota. In her pocket is a piece of paper with Carlene’s phone number scribbled on it. Yet, Big Ben’s wife has no idea who the dead woman is. Meanwhile, bodies are piling up in the mangrove marshes of Southwest Florida. Cause of death? … some known, some unknown. Are these events related? Big Ben shifts into cop mode to find out. But he’s not going to like what he’s about to uncover: a world-renown scientist who is mysteriously missing; a nefarious power group orchestrating a world-altering agenda; a seductive black widow assassin; questionable political maneuvering aimed at The White House; and an eccentric old hippie billionaire who knows more than she’ll tell. The closer Big Ben gets to the truth, the more dangerous and unraveled his life becomes …
WHAT BRINGS SOMEONE HOME?... Renowned fashion designer Dodge Maddison receives an ominous phone call in the middle of his Paris premiere. Bewildered and concerned, he returns immediately to his hometown of Bryce Corner, Massachusetts where the mysterious deaths of his grandparents (the only family he has) have shocked the tight-woven community. What he finds there not only surprises him, but forces him to reevaluate the price of fame and fortune. Old ghosts, tugged heartstrings and a new and unexpected love affair threaten to spin his world out of control and crumble his fashion empire. Or not…
In early 1948, my church fellowship friends were preparing me for something special that would happen soon. Shortly after on Easter Sunday, our pastor gave an Alter Call. I knew this was that for which they had been preparing me. On the way to the Altar, the most powerful feeling that I have ever felt came over me. I have always wondered what really happened to me then. Throughout 30 years of Army time, I have met very fine people of other beliefs and faiths primarily in the Asian-Pacific area. They were so devout in their beliefs that the feeling came over me that there must be a way for these people to be brought into Heaven by the Holy Trinity. In the early 1990’s I started writing a manuscript about that thought and have continued from time to time. This past year, a pastor of a local church was talking about how the Holy Spirit would come into our lives if we really invited Him. Later in a church night class, it was explained that once the Holy Spirit was in your soul, He would see all things that you were seeing, hear all that you were hearing, and sense all of your perceptions. I got to thinking – over all those Army years when there were difficult situations to handle, He had been guiding me to do what needed to be done. While I have been working on the manuscript, I have worried about from where the thoughts were coming – from up above or from down below. So I have stopped frequently to pray that things were coming out right on paper. My prayers have been more frequent since my eyes have been opened by the pastor and his church. With their help, I now realize clearly how guidance has occurred over all these years. May some of the thoughts herein help you to reach out to others with love and understanding and may you help others to do the same.
Civil War breaks out and Casca becomes entangled in the struggle between the North and South. Taking the Rebel side he fights for a free Virginia, as well as for the woman he loves. But he soon finds molding a bunch of raw recruits into a fighting force is more of a struggle than he had realized. And soon he finds himself fighting not only the Northern Army, but also one of his own men that is intent on killing him. And there is an unseen but deadly familiar enemy close at hand who will stop at nothing to kill those dear to him at hand who will stop at nothing to kill those dear to him and imprison him for all eternity!
Picked up more dead than alive from the North Sea, Casca is taken to an Alexandria hospital. His amazing power of recovery arouses the suspicion of medical orderly Ieaun Clark and when Casca escapes, fearing his immortality would be discovered, two British soldiers are accidentally killed. Clark is recruited by the British army to help track Casca down, so the Eternal Mercenary tries to hide within the ranks of an Australian unit bound for Gallipoli. Once there, Casca has to endure the horrors of trench warfare on a narrow front hemmed in by the Turkish army as well as to evade the closing net led by the determined Clark. Casca’s situation is not helped by falling for an Australian nurse, and his identity is jeopardized when one of his colleagues decides to betray him to the military police. Once again Casca must use his centuries of knowledge and skill to outwit an implacable enemy.
The Mongols are on the move again and Russia is their target. Casca regions the Horde after an absence of nearly twenty years and finds the unity that Genghis Khan brought them is beginning to fracture. Rival factions vie to promote their candidate to succeed the ailing Ogedei Khan and Casca is dragged into the murky world of Mongol politics when he is given the coronation stone to guard. Even as the Horde plunder their way through Russia, slaughtering as they go, Casca has to watch his back as one faction or the other send agents to take the stone. It is only when his woman is kidnapped by an unknown faction that Casca decides to take matters into his own hands and make his choice as to who should succeed the throne. But first a war must be won and on the plains of Hungary the final confrontation takes place as the campaign reaches its bloody climax.
Yugoslavia, 1991, and Casca is recruited by the fledgling Croatian state to undertake a covert mission to kill a warlord called Vardaric before he can commence a campaign of terror by carrying out a systematic ethnic cleansing of captured Croatian territory. To Casca, a.k.a. Casimir Lonjic, the mission has an extra incentive, for Vardaric had carried out a raid on Casca’s Thai hideout a few years previously, killing his woman and destroying all he had built up over the years. So while the former Yugoslav states of Croatia and Serbia go to war with one another, Casca goes to war on Vardaric. With a team of nine other mercenaries, Casca is sent into the warzone to take out Vardaric and his company of killers, but unknown to Casca, there are two members of his squad with agendas of their own, each different to one another. It is only when members of his team are murdered that Casca begins to realize things are not what they seem. It is only after an epic chase across Bosnia that Casca had the chance to uncover the truth and confront not one, but two deadly enemies from his past.
Returning to war ravaged Italy, Casca and his companion-in-arms Flavius are recruited by the Roman army to take part in a campaign to retake lands lost to a rival emperor. But the two men are also tasked to undertake another mission on behalf of the emperor Honorius, to find a precious artifact in the hands of the rival emperor and recover it before it is lost, stolen or destroyed in the fighting. However Casca realizes that there is more to the mission than he or Flavius are being told, and the Eternal Mercenary must weave his way through Roman politics and rivalries to uncover the truth about the artifact. When it is revealed to him, it’s more valuable than he would have ever guessed, and that the emperor and the fading empire will need this at all costs, even if it means hunting the two men down.
Washed up on the Oregon Coast, Casca discovers that life on the frontier is hard and cruel. Hired out as a bar bouncer, he falls foul of a gang led by a ruthless son of a rich and powerful ranching family and sets out to get revenge for the rape and assault on a saloon girl. Wounded in a shoot-out where only one of his quarry survives, Casca, now calling himself Casey Long, embarks on a search to find the lone survivor, and the trail leads to the 7th Cavalry in Dakota Territory. Joining up, Casey finds a war with the Sioux and Cheyenne has broken out and he is sent with the rest of the unit under George Armstrong Custer to pacify the natives. Against a backdrop of hunting down the last of his prey, Casey is set on a date with fate at a place that will become known as The Little Bighorn.
Retreating from the corpse-strewn battle ground of Sharpsburg, Casca and his comrades have to fight for survival against growing odds. From the frozen killing slopes of Fredericksburg to the suicidal charge up Cemetery Ridge at Gettysburg, Casca has to use his martial skills learned throughout the centuries to keep his team together. But nothing faced on the battlefield can compare to the implacable hatred of the Brotherhood of the Lamb and their agent’s efforts to capture him and kill those that he loves. So Casca leads the survivors of his shrinking band out from being trapped behind enemy lines to the final showdown with the Brotherhood where at a Virginia farmhouse no quarter will be given and only one side will emerge alive, and where Casca will finally fight for vengeance and for the sanity of a woman he once loved.
Napoleon prepares to invade Russia and so Casca answers the call to war and to fight for the eagles of Imperial France. But Casca knows that the Russian armies won’t be the only opponent to face on the long difficult march to Moscow. The extreme cold of the winter will be a more deadly enemy than any soldier to the invaders. And not only these two known enemies plague Casca’s mind; he has to deal with an unknown murderer lurking close by with a mission of his own, linked to the woman Casca has vowed to protect. And then there’s the mystery of who raped, murdered and stole a valuable icon from a helpless Polish village, someone within the ranks close to Casca. The Eternal Mercenary must find the icon and the killer to fulfill a vow to a dying girl.
Captured by his sworn enemies the Brotherhood of the Lamb, Casca is forced to undertake a mission on their behalf when they threaten to hill his woman, Ayesha, unless he agrees. Left with no choice, Casca seeks to recover the holy of holies, the Spear of Longinus – his spear – from the Persians. But first their armies must be defeated in the war with the Byzantine Empire, so Casca joins the army led by the Emperor Heraclius, and takes part in the marches and battles of a war that will only end with utter defeat of one or the other. And Casca knows that should the Persians be beaten and the way left open to recover the Spear, the Brotherhood cannot be trusted to keep their word. So he must devise a plan to not only get the Spear, but to also rescue Ayesha and keep the fanatics of the Brotherhood at arms length.
Enjoying a few years of respite from war in the colonies of British North America, Casca becomes romantically involved with Rose Maplin, daughter of an ambitious merchant. So when the newly arrived Sir Richard Eley, a major in the army, falls for the same woman, trouble is not far away. Arrested on false charges, Casca escapes and becomes a fugitive, wanted by the British. Sir Richard is determined to hunt Casca down, but as war between the colonists and the British government looms, Casca finds safety with a Minuteman company and when war does break out, Casca and sir Richard end up on opposite sides, each intent on denying the other both victory, and the prize of Rose Maplin. As the conflict switches from the killing slopes of Bunker Hill to New York, and to the frozen backdrop of Trenton and Princeton, Sir Richard’s ruthlessness imperils both Casca and Rose and finally culminates in a fatal confrontation.
A simple rescue mission, that's what they said to Casca. But to Casca it was anything but that. Recovering from the trauma of seeing his beloved Rome fall to the Goths, he had taken the first job that came his way in Gaul. Getting a group of Roman and Germanic mercenaries was not difficult, being that gold was promised in these times of uncertainty. What would be difficult is to find out which of his companions was hiding an alternative agenda while traveling north to the barbarian country. It would be hard to avoid getting caught up in a dynastic squabble between the King of the Burgundians and one of his group of mercenaries.
The war in the Colonies continues, and for Casca his personal battle with Sir Richard Eley has to take second place as the British close in on Philadelphia. Taken captive, the Eternal Mercenary must endure the brutal conditions of a prison hulk outside New York City, before the enigmatic Irish woman Claire Kelly engineers his escape. Given a second chance to defeat his arch-rival, Casca travels south to take part in the Battle of Monmouth Courthouse before closing in on the British baronet. Outside Yorktown, the two adversaries finally come face to face in a climactic encounter in a battle-scarred redoubt.
When a Crusade is called by the Pope to regain Jerusalem for Christianity, Casca finds himself drawn in to the campaign thanks to him agreeing to assist a helpless French noblewoman. What Casca is initially aware of, however, is that the noblewoman is carrying a ancient relic that she dare not reveal for fear of it being destroyed nu by some of those on the crusade. To make matters worse the Crusade attracts the attention of The Brotherhood of the Lamb and eventually Casca has to confront his arch enemies who have sworn to inflict every punishment that they can on him.
War looms in Europe, and Casca finds himself the target of a German police investigation into the death of a Spanish national in a Berlin hotel. To escape discovery, the Eternal Mercenary joins the new panzer corps and soon finds himself teaming up with a giant of a man called Gustaf Beidemann. As war breaks out, Casca, Gustaf and the rest of his crew are plunged into a vicious campaign that takes them through Poland. All this time, unbeknown to Casca, the police are closing in on him, thanks to the efforts of one man, Erich Farben. Farben's progress is stalled when war with the West begins, and Casca, Gus and his friends rampage through Belgium and become embroiled in the biggest tank battle of the war so far against the best that France can send into the field. Just when it seems Farben has got his hands on his quarry, a guardian angel, connected to Casca's long, distant past, appears out of nowhere, intending to save the Eternal Mercenary from spending years in a Nazi prison.
Casca steals a Southampton criminal’s girl and escapes retribution by joining King Henry V’s army assembling near by for a campaign into France. Disguising the girl as one of their band, Casca and his new comrades are soon embroiled in a lengthy siege where the fighting bogs down amongst the fortifications. Casca soon learns that the French are not his only opponents, for the criminal has sent an assassin after him and his girl as punishment for their actions. As the rains of autumn arrive, the English army embarks on a long trek to safety, harassed by converging French armies, and the eternal mercenary must use his centuries of combat and survival skills to protect the girl from the dangers closing in on them. Riddled with disease, the English realize they will have to turn and fight for their lives even though they are outnumbered and without food, but Casca and his comrades have one weapon the French rightly fear, the longbow, and on a rain-soddened field in northern France, they will take part in one of the battles that will echo down the ages in folklore.
When the armies of Hitler invade Soviet Russia, Casca (a.k.a Carl Langer) is amongst the legions of soldiers sent to topple Stalin’s hated regime. As part of the elite panzer corps, he forms part of the spearhead of Operation Barbarossa, the codename for Hitler’s invasion. While Langer fights against communism, the Brotherhood of the Lamb intensify their search for the man they see as the spawn of Satan. Using the SS and Gestapo as their unwitting allies to check all records, they intend to find him and once they do, they will imprison him for eternity. Langer’s only hope is in the form of the slender and beautiful Isabella, sent by her family the Longini, who have long been Langer’s secret guardians, to infiltrate and sabotage the Brotherhood’s evil plans. So while Langer partakes in the great battles of Smolensk, Kiev and Moscow in the titanic struggle between Germany and the USSR, another battle ensues in the corridors, streets and parks of Krakow, where Isabella has to not only succeed in her mission, but also to escape the clutches of a vengeful SS.
A refugee from the marauding Turks, Casca takes shelter in beleaguered Constantinople where he is soon recruited by a desperate emperor to travel to the savage tartar lands of the Golden Horde to negotiate a treaty so they can save the shrinking Byzantine Empire. Casca’s journey does not end there, though, for he seeks a mighty warlord who can unite the fractured tribes of High Asia and thus destroy the rising power of the Ottoman Turks. The Eternal Mercenary crosses the Caspian Sea, accompanied by a beautiful slave girl, Adil, to the lands of Transoxiana. There, he finds himself drawn to the armies of Timur the Lame, one of many competing warriors struggling to unite their own clan in the face of Moghul aggression. Under Casca’s guiding hand, Timur slowly rises, defeating his enemies one after the other, until he becomes feared throughout the merciless lands of Asia. Casca’s mission to save Byzantium is always in his mind, however, and no matter how many enemies rear their heads, he is determined to steer an increasingly bloodthirsty Timur to turn on the powerful Ottomans.
Sometimes our behavior patterns and thought process stem from issues in our lives such as hurt, anger, bitterness, jealousy, resentment and pride. Many times we are taught to just “pray through” or deal with, and push these symptoms into the corner of our minds while never get to the root of the issues. While we are busy trying to cure or justify symptoms, stone upon stone, the walls of internal bondage are being built…as spiritual strongholds are constructed. Most of the time we do not even recognize what is happening because we are so overly controlled by our emotions. Through the pages of this book, may the Lord Jesus reveal to you the truth and responsibility you need to grasp … and actually receive freedom … God’s way.
If God has ever given you a promise and you have yet to see it come to pass this book is for you. This book is for the child of God who secretly questions in the midst of their dying circumstance, “Where is Jesus Now?” as Mary and Martha did as they sat in God’s waiting room for three days staring at a dead corpse. It’s a book for those who have loved God through great disappointment and trusted when you could not always understand.
Our prayer life is the cornerstone of making the kingdoms of this world the Kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ (Revelation 11:15). As a pastor, mentor and ministry trainer, I’ve found that believers have difficulty with the techniques of prayer. Believers solicit prayer assistance, they even say they will pray as situations arise, but when it comes time to deliver voice to their prayers, they downshift to the mental model of only thinking about praying, as an act of safety and confidence. Streaming Prayers: Dialogues with God is part devotional, part instructional and part prophetic companion in the life of intercessory prayer. It is a step in the direction of providing a model of focused prayer and the framework for prophetic follow-up.
