Common Mistakes of Authors
1) Not correctly formatting their files : When authors write their book, 99.9% of them write the book in Microsoft Word and use the current page set up of 8.5 x11. The problem is, most published books are either 5.5 x 8.5 or 6x9 in size. The page size of the finished file must be the same as the desired finished size of the book. The solution is to go to page set-up at the top and start writing the book in the format size you want the finished size to be before you start writing the book. This will eliminate having to go back at the end of the process and re-format it to size, which often leads to page shifting and the book getting out of order. This can be costly to fix.
2) Not inserting page breaks : Most times authors will just hit the space bar a bunch of times or the enter key to go to the next page. The problem is that often leads to reflowing and shifting when it is converted to a P.D.F. The solution here is to insert page breaks after you are done with each page and ready to start the next page. This simply can be done by clicking on the Insert option up top and clicking on Page Break.
3) Margin Error : Margins are very important to the book and should be uniform throughout. If not taken into account, a book without proper margins will have the words end up to close to the edge of the book and even risk being trimmed off. Since all books need to be trimmed at the end, plenty of margin space should be accounted for to insure the finished book looks professional. The solution to this is to set the margins at .5 all the way around, including the headers, footers, and gutter. This way the writing does not drop down into the spine or run to close to the edge.
