Paper Weights
50# and 60#
A general rule of thumb is that the higher the paper weight, the better the paper quality. The paper used for printers is different than the standard bond papers you buy for your laser printer or copy machines. To translate the familiar 20# or 24# weight to printer weights, multiply by 2.5. The 20# weight is equivalent to a 50# printer weight, the 24# weight is equivalent to the 60# weight. Either weight is standard for trade paperbacks.
10 PT and 12 PT CIS
10 pt C1S is the cover stock (paper) on a typical paperback.10 pt (point) refers to the thickness (or caliper) of a sheet of paper. C1S means that the sheet is "coated one side". We find that typically, books on the bookshelf are printed on a 10 pt CIS. 12 pt. C1S is a little thicker than your typical paperback at 10 pt C1S.
